义龙见到心莲，欲向心莲表白，谁知道被翠儿撞见，破口大骂，说是非要手刃心莲。转而翠儿又和义龙扭打在一起，转而又吻着义龙不撒手，情急之下，义龙道出自己失手杀了老社主的真相，翠儿不信，愤而离去。没有心机的翠儿，把义龙已承认是杀父仇人的事向陈社主和盘托出，陈社主心惊，假意要用极刑惩治义龙，翠儿吓得跪地求情，陈社主的诡计已定，这才答应亲自出面，为翠儿义龙撮合婚事。阿陆去学堂请求芳华，希望通过她在花耶洋行当办买的父亲帮助他进入洋行，立志学做生意，芳华满心欢喜。阿陆把要去洋行的事告诉了万师傅，万师傅无可奈何，阿陆却已经对新生活充满了憧憬，就此这个小人物正式走到了前台。阿陆告知李宝寅自己准备去洋行上班，宝寅虽然心里难过，但还是很克制，结果则是阿福看不过去，斥责阿陆恩将仇报，欲拳脚相加，被宝寅制止，宝寅虽然内心痛苦，但是还是感叹人各有志，并祝阿陆能够日后飞黄腾达。阿陆在家收拾上班的行头，万师傅虽然嘴上骂阿陆不仁不义，但是见心莲倒是挺开明豁达，自己也只得在一旁生闷气。芳华送来一套高档西装，换下阿陆身上的长袍马褂，阿陆和芳华走后，万师傅忍不住提醒心莲，阿陆是否与芳华关系太过亲密，心莲虽然嘴上说相信阿陆，但是心里却渐渐不安起来……芳华带阿陆去见威廉，阿陆拿出汉斯的名片，要威廉给自己安排个职位。威廉一口应承为阿陆安排好入洋行工作，但条件却是芳华必须远离阿陆。威廉根本没把小小阿陆放在眼里，精明阿陆则以一句“无毒不丈夫”，让威廉哑口无言。马修却在这时出现，正好给威廉解了围，不但如此，马修还假装绅士地答应给阿陆安排职位。马修让阿陆去了茶水间，故意叫阿陆去打杂，妄想逼使阿陆知难而退。
